Tips for Getting the Home Ready to Sell

One of the questions I am asked when a client is considering placing their property on the market is, “What should I do to get ready?” The first thing to remember is that we all have different tastes. So don’t make a lot of major changes that might suit you but not the new buyers. A buyer will make changes according to their own decorating preferences.

The key is to keep things simple. Purge and depersonalize. The less clutter the better. Get a head start on your next move by packing away family pictures and your favourite knickknacks. Check with family members to see if they are interested in your treasures. Use this opportunity to make donations to your local charities, those in need of gently used household items including furniture.

Don’t panic if you find this too daunting and are not up to the task. I can help with recommending estate professionals, this is a quick way to purge, and put money in your pocket

Do make minor repairs such as leaky faucets.

The overall first impression is most important to a prospective buyer. Outside, landscaping can make a dramatic difference. Often something as simple as flowers lining a front walkway can make a more inviting entrance.

DON’T go to any great expense.
